Apolitic Privacy Policy
Last updated on June30, 2008.
At Apolitic the protection of your personal information has always been a top priority. Apolitic's Policy regarding the collection, use and disclosure, if any, of personal information can be broken down into the 10 principles covered in Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act ("PIPEDA"). Apolitic complies with all applicable privacy laws of the federal government of Canada and the provincial government of Ontario (the “applicable privacy laws”). See “Types of Personal Information” (below) for a list of the types of personal information which we collect from you subject to this Policy when you do business with us.
1. Accountability
Apolitic is responsible for personal information under its control.
We have designated a Privacy Officer who is accountable for our compliance with this Policy and all applicable privacy laws.
All Apolitic staff are responsible for day-to-day compliance.
When we use trusted third parties to act on our behalf by performing such functions as fulfilling orders, delivering packages, processing credit card payments or providing customer service, contractual or other appropriate means are used to ensure compliance by such third parties with this Policy and all applicable privacy laws.
Our website may contain links to other websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other web sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site to read the privacy statements of each and every web site that collects personally identifiable information. This Privacy Policy applies solely to information collected by Apolitic.
2. Identifying Purposes
Unless the purpose is self-evident due to the nature of the transaction in question, Apolitic will identify the purposes for which personal information is collected at or before the time the information is collected.
The proposed purposes will be described in a reasonably understandable manner.
An example of a self-evident purpose is requesting the name and address of the person placing an order in order to ensure proper delivery.
3. Consent
We will collect, use or disclose your personal information only with your knowledge and consent, except where required or permitted by law.
Apolitic will not make your consent a requirement to the supply of a product or a service other than required to be able to supply the product or service.
Consent can be expressed or, in some circumstances, implied, and given in writing, by using or not using a check-off box, electronically, orally (in person or by telephone), or by your conduct, such as use of a product or service. Apolitic assumes your implied consent to share some personal information, such as your name or nickname, photo, footprint, group memberships, and other profile-related information with other users of our websites and software. You may choose to hide this information, as noted in the Personal Information (Profile) section below.
In determining the type of consent to obtain, Apolitic will consider all relevant factors, including the sensitivity of the information and your reasonable expectations.
You may withdraw your consent at any time, on reasonable notice, subject to legal or contractual restrictions. Apolitic will inform you of the implications of doing so.
4. Limiting Collection
The collection of personal information by Apolitic will be limited to what is necessary for the purposes which it identifies.
We will collect personal information by fair and lawful means.
5. Limiting Use, Disclosure, and Retention
We do not sell or rent customer lists or personal information to others. However, we may release your information to parties outside Apolitic in certain circumstances, which include:
With your consent
On an ongoing basis, we will disclose your personal information to other organizations or individuals as requested by you. We release only the information required to identify you, as well as the specific data collected by our software and websites for which you have given consent.
It is important to understand the different ways that we may obtain your consent to collect, use, disclose and share your personal information. Depending on the situation and the sensitivity of the information, we may obtain your consent in different ways. Express consent may be obtained verbally, online or in writing. Implied consent may be obtained through your use of a product, or when you approach us to obtain products or services from us. We will not make your consent a condition of obtaining a product or service, unless it is reasonably or legally required, and we will clearly indicate when this is the case.
For servicing purposes
We give a limited amount of information, only as necessary, without your consent, to our suppliers and agents. These suppliers and agents may be located in Canada or other jurisdictions or countries, and may disclose information in response to valid demands or requests from governments, regulators, courts and law enforcement authorities in those jurisdictions or countries.
When required or permitted to do so by law or applicable regulators and self-regulatory organizations
We may release information in response to a search warrant, court order, or other demand or enquiry which we believe to be valid. This may include requests from regulators, including self-regulators, who are responsible for ensuring Apolitic is in compliance with applicable regulations. We may disclose information to help us collect a debt owed to us by you. We may also disclose information to an investigative body in the case of a breach of agreement or contravention of law.
Transfers of a business
As Apolitic continues to develop and grow, we may buy or sell parts of our businesses. A large portion of our businesses consist of the data collected by our software and websites, as well as our customer relationships, and personal customer information, which would generally be one of the transferred business assets.
6. Accuracy
We will keep your personal information as accurate, complete and up-to-date as necessary for the purposes for which it is to be used.
7. Safeguards
Apolitic will protect personal information by security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including through the use of the following measures: physical (e.g., locked filing cabinets, restricted access, appropriate disposal of personal information), organizational (e.g., security clearances, access only on a "need to know" basis), technological (e.g., passwords, encryption) and training of employees.
8. Openness
Information about our policies and practices relating to the management of personal information will be made readily available to individuals.
Individual Access
Upon request, Apolitic will inform you of the existence, use and disclosure of personal information relating to you, and give you access to that information. You have the right to challenge the accuracy and completeness of your information and have it amended as appropriate.
However, in certain circumstances permitted by law, this information will not be disclosed to you. Some examples of these circumstances are information that contains references to other individuals, that cannot be disclosed for legal, security or commercial proprietary reasons, or that is subject to solicitor-client or litigation privilege.
We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of seventeen or knowingly allow such persons to register. If you are under the age of seventeen, please do not attempt to register or send any information about yourself to us, including your name, address, telephone number, or email address. In the event that we learn that we have collected personal information from an individual under the age of seventeen, we will remove that information as quickly as possible. If you believe that we might have any information from or about a person under the age of seventeen, please contact us.

Apolitic will inform individuals who make enquiries or lodge complaints about its enquiry or complaint procedures, as applicable. If a complaint is found to be justified, we will take appropriate measures, including, if necessary, amending our policies and practices.
Of course, this Policy is subject to all applicable privacy laws and Apolitic's right to change it at any time.
Types of Personal Information
Apolitic is not in the business of selling customer information to others. Users' specific personal information is not currently sold or rented but we may decide to do so in the future. If this were to happen, Apolitic would announce such a plan and ask you to "opt in". If you wanted to share your personal information, you would have to respond. In the absence of such a response, your personal information would not be sold or rented to a third party.
The type of personal information which we collect from you depends on the type of transaction involved:
Online
Apolitic asks for your name, email address, and other personal information when you request a proposal or quote online. This information is used to process your requests and to allow us to communicate with you. The information also enables Apolitic to customize products or services to better meet your preferences and to offer you products and services from Apolitic and other sources that may be of interest to you.
To process and/or fulfill your request, trusted third parties may be used to perform the required function, and in such cases, appropriate personal information will be given to them to allow for the service to be provided. Contractual or other appropriate means would always be used to ensure third party compliance with our privacy policy and all applicable privacy laws.
Statistical Reports
Apolitic may also use personal account information and data collected through your personal identification to generate statistics and aggregate reports for internal use and for sharing with affiliates, subsidiaries, licensees, successors and advertisers. These statistics and aggregate reports will not contain any information that could identify you personally.
